New Braunfels, TX – September 18, 2023 – The New Braunfels Chamber announced its support of New Braunfels Independent School District’s Proposition A – Voter Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) that will be included on the November 7 ballot.

Prop A proposes a 3-cent increase to the NBISD tax rate for maintenance and operations (M&O), which is projected to generate approximately $2.5 million in additional revenue. This funding is essential to sustaining NBISD’s current academic programs and attracting and retaining high-quality staff. If Prop A fails, NBISD will face a budget shortfall that could impact programs and future staff compensation increases.

The Chamber’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to issue a Resolution of Support for Prop A at their monthly meeting on September 18. Signed by the Chamber’s Chair of the Board Allison Humphries, the growth of New Braunfels was cited as a primary reason for endorsing Prop A.

The Resolution of Support states that the responsible allocation of public funds is vital to the continued growth, development, and prosperity of our community. It also acknowledges the pressing financial needs facing New Braunfels ISD.

In a call to action, the Resolution states “The New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors expresses its full support for Proposition A and urges all relevant stakeholders, including local businesses, community organizations, and civic leaders, to join in support and to encourage voter participation.”

The Chamber encourages all eligible voters in the community to participate in the upcoming election on November 7 and cast their votes in support of Prop A.

More information about Prop A can be found on New Braunfels ISD’s website.
