Chamber Board of Directors Endorse State Propositions 2 and 4

The November Election Day will be here before you know it and the New Braunfels Chamber is encouraging all eligible voters to read up on the 14 statewide measures that will appear on the ballot before hitting the polls.

During the 2023 legislative session, 297 constitutional amendments were filed, and the Texas Legislature voted to refer 14 amendments to appear on the November ballot.

Among the numerous propositions, the Chamber’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to endorse propositions 2 and 4 at their September 18 board meeting. These propositions, if passed, promise to bring about positive changes that align with the priorities of the Chamber. Proposition 2 authorizes local governments to support child-care facilities, while Proposition 4 aims to reform the property tax system.
Proposition 2 would authorize county or local governments to exempt all or part of the appraised value used to operate child-care facilities. This is a crucial step towards addressing the childcare crisis that many families in our community face. The high cost of quality childcare often places a significant burden on working parents, making it challenging to maintain employment and provide for their families.

Proposition 4 introduces significant changes to our property tax system by raising the homestead exemption from $40,000 to $100,000. This adjustment would provide substantial relief to homeowners, reducing their property tax burden and putting more money back into their pockets.

While these two propositions would be a benefit to our community, it is important for eligible voters to educate themselves on the entire ballot. The Chamber encourages its citizens to exercise their right to vote on November 7th and make their voices heard in shaping the future of our community.
