The Chamber Board of Directors convened on the afternoon of Monday, March 20 for their monthly meeting. The BOD received various community updates including information about the upcoming 57th annual Texas Legislative Conference and the City bond election to be included on the ballot in May.
The Texas Legislative Conference will be held on Thursday and Friday March 23-24, 2023. Thursday evening features the Texan of the Year Reception honoring 2023 recipient Judge Nelson Wolff and the half-day conference the following morning includes two addresses and three panel discussions.
City Manager, Robert Camareno, provided an overview of the City’s bond propositions that includes $140,045,000 in funding, with 71% of funding geared toward transportation, 20% toward a library branch on the southeast side of town, and 9% toward park and recreation. More information about the three separate bond propositions can be found on the City’s website.
In response to the bond presentation, the BOD decided to pass a resolution in support of the City’s bond. The bond propositions align directly with the Chamber’s priorities to improve mobility and transportation and recommend its members and citizens of New Braunfels support all three ballot measures.
Additionally, the first Chair of the Board Award for 2023 was given to Captain Mike Rutherford for his 36 years of service to the New Braunfels Police Department. Captain Rutherford recently announced his retirement after becoming one of the most respected members of the NBPD force. Rutherford served as a patrol officer, corporal, detective, sergeant, lieutenant and finally as a captain with NBPD during his service.
