Just a friendly reminder that the Mermaid Capital of Texas Fest, originally scheduled for September, has been officially moved to May 2025. Mark your calendars for May 9th - May 18th, 2025 as we prepare for a festival that promises to be our most magical yet!

Is the Mermaid Festival canceled?
No, the festival is not canceled. The 8th Annual Mermaid Capital of Texas Fest has been thoughtfully changed to May 9th - May 18th, 2025. This intentional action sets a new, official date for our annual celebration. Moving to May allows us to take advantage of cooler weather and the onset of summer, providing a greater opportunity to enhance the festival and deliver an even more extraordinary experience. We remain dedicated to hosting a FREE and FAMILY-FRIENDLY event, and we can’t wait to showcase and celebrate everything that makes San Marcos uniquely special!
Will the Mermaid Festival conflict with Texas State University or San Marcos CISD graduations?
Texas State University's graduation is set for May 8th, 9th, and 10th, and San Marcos CISD High School's graduation will be on May 23rd. The Mermaid Festival begins on May 9th and continues through May 18th, with our signature Mermaid Promenade taking place on May 17th. This timing allows us to embrace the graduation season and extend the “mermaid vibe” throughout the month.
Why was the festival moved to May?
Not only does May offer cooler weather, making it more comfortable for vendors and attendees alike. It’s also the perfect time to celebrate and engage with our community while kicking off the summer season. Most importantly the timing aligns with our enhanced eco-guardianship programming, aimed at educating and inspiring youth throughout the school year and culminating in the festival celebration. Our goal is to leverage the festivals attention to highlight and support the stewardship of the San Marcos River just in time for the start of summer! Will the Mermaid Festival be held in May every year from now on?
Yes! We’re excited to say goodbye to the intense September heat and embrace the refreshing spring ambiance of May for future festivals.
I heard a rumor that the Mermaid Art Ball and MERtini Shakedown Competition will make a return. Is that true?

Will the festival still be free to attend?
Absolutely! We’re committed to keeping the Mermaid Festival FREE and FAMILY-FRIENDLY for years to come.

What date is the parade and is parade registration available now?
The Mermaid Promenade is scheduled for Saturday, May 17th 10:00 - Noon. The route is the same as it has been in previous years.
Yes, we are currently accepting parade entries! To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, we have capped parade entries to 100.

Will there be opportunities for community organizations and businesses to be involved during the 10-day Festival Celebration?
Absolutely! That is the ultimate goal of the festival to unite our community in celebration of all things UNIQUELY SAN MARCOS! We invite the entire community to get their Mermaid ON and be a part of this unique San Marcos annual destination festival. Submit a request to have your event featured on the Mermaid Festival calendar, which will be highly promoted leading up to and throughout the festival. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your event and engage with the vibrant community spirit of the Mermaid Capital of Texas Fest. The link to submit your event will be available in October. We will make the announcement on our Facebook page when we activate our online form.
